Nixon, Mervyn Austin MA(Hons), LTCL. Former Head of English at Palmerston North Boys High School. Life member of the New Zealand Library Association.
Peacefully in Wellington on 24 July 2011, 12 days before his 99th birthday.
Devoted husband of the late Nancy for 71 years. Loved father of Mervyn, Peter, Marion, Margaret, and Mary. Father in law and friend to Annette, Linda, Sonja, Ken, Warren, and David. Dear granddad of Philippa, Andrew (deceased), Carolyn, Michael, Louise, and Stephen and great-grandfather of Hannah, Jack, Thomas, Alec, Hunter, and Ronan. Special friend to family members Georgina, Lizzie, and Alex. Uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
Mervyn was the last of the first-generation New Zealanders born to the 6 Nixon brothers and 1 sister who arrived in New Zealand from Ulster in the 1880s. He was pre-deceased by his half-brothers William and Alfred and half-sister Mabel and his brothers Harold, Roy, and Allan.
Mervyn can be visited at the Guardian Funeral Home Chapel at 4 Moorefield Road, Johnsonville until 9:45am on Saturday 30 July 2011.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Duffy Books in Homes would be appreciated and can be left at the service.

A service to celebrate Mervyn’s life will be held at St John’s Church, Bassett Road, Johnsonville at 11 am on Saturday 30 July 2011.
