GREENHAM, Vernon Price (Vern);
Of Raumati South. Senior Fire Fighter N.Z. Fire Service, #1113. (Previously in London Fire Brigade.) Corporal, 7th Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment Band.
Aged 77, after an heroic battle, Vern finally succumbed to occupational cancer on 9th February, at sunset, with his family close. True love and devoted husband to Sue, for 23 years. Former husband of Frances (deceased), and Gillian. Deeply loved Dad of Stephanie, Aaron (Philippines), and Hayden & Emma (Perth). Loved Grandad of Abbie, Elise and Ben, River, and Leo, Max and Lily-May. Great Grandad of Jesse and Jett. Cherished younger brother and brother in law of Terry & Gwen Greenham (Raumati), and Janice & David Squibb (UK). Esteemed “Uncle Boo” to all his nieces and nephews, and their families, in N.Z. and the U.K. Dearly loved “Greeny” to all of Sue’s very big family. Highly regarded and entertaining colleague for 50 years, in the London Fire Brigade, then the N.Z. Fire Service, until 2017. Valued mate to many friends and fellow musicians. Best friend to Freddy dog. Heartfelt thanks to the Mary Potter Hospice team, Sevenoaks staff, and all the medical professionals who cared for Vern over 4 years, and especially in recent weeks. No flowers, just memories, please. Rest in eternal love and heavenly peace, Vern. Let’s laugh one more time at Vern’s unique antics and humour, and celebrate his best qualities, at Southwards Car Museum, 250 Otaihanga Road, Kapiti, on Wednesday, 18 February 2026 at 1.30pm, then private cremation.
