MARTIN, Graham Thresher (late of Thorndon) – Passed peacefully on Wednesday 6th August 2025, aged 89 years, at Wellington Regional Hospital. This was a location where he had helped countless others over the duration of his career as a neurosurgeon. His passion for this field never wavered - he remained sharp as a tack until his final days, continuing to write academic papers on neuroanatomy. Graham was an intelligent man, able to speak at length on matters from language to history. This love of learning is something that he fostered in his family in his own eccentric ways, from playing dolls with his daughters in foreign languages, to designing Easter egg hunts for his granddaughters where clues led to the various anatomical figures or history books he had around his home. Graham was fiercely loyal to and supportive of his family, often simply and graciously replying "it's my job" upon being thanked for said support.
Graham is preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Moya. He will be keenly missed by his surviving family, in which he was the:
Dearly loved partner of Barbara (née Alexander) for over 60 years.
Loving father of Helen and Donnetta.
Devoted grandfather of Annabelle, Holly, and Francis.
Brother and brother-in-law of Helen, Donnetta, Linda, and Karl.
Messages to the Martin family may be posted C/- PO Box 14336, Kilbirnie 6241 or left here Graham’s tribute page.
A private cremation is to be held for Graham as per his wish.
