David Blair Hamilton, aged 68 of Christchurch, died peacefully and unexpectedly from a brain aneurysm on Thursday 17 August in Wellington.

He is survived by his wife Viva, sons Tom and Harry, sisters Mandy and Eliza, nieces Emma and Katie, nephew Sam, sisters-in-law Angel and Flora, brother-in-law Harry, mother-in-law Fe, and great-niece Madeline.

David will be profoundly missed by his family, and many close and long-time friends.

As a photographer, owner of Flashdog Studios and Photohire, he was an integral part of the lives of his industry colleagues, who reside locally, nationally and internationally.

David was someone who not only knew how to take a great photo but also had a keen eye for composition, lighting, and storytelling. An industry creative with technical skills, adaptability, attention to detail, and patience, he worked in the studio and on location, shooting fashion and portraiture, products and brand images.

A supporter of various photographic associations, he was also a mentor to many young photographers, and generously shared his knowledge with others at every opportunity.

As a member of the Poneke Rugby Club and their resident photographer, he was ever the keen rugby supporter who not only played, but coached and convened many young rugby teams that his sons were part of.

In 2017, David received his black belt in Hapkido, and was an instructor of this Korean martial art.

A long-time member of Eckankar, the Path of Spiritual Freedom, he served as a member of the clergy, President and Chairman of the Board of Eckankar in New Zealand.

There will be a private cremation held for family.

A memorial service to honour and celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday 22 August at 1.00pm, all welcome.
