DUGGAN, Daniel [Dan]John MBE

Born Wanganui 18-01-1933 –
Died Masterton 29-04-2015

Peacefully, at Kandahar Home, surrounded by his family.

Dan is the beloved father of Dennis, the late Michael, Sharon and Jill. He is the much cherished Grandfather of Tania, Tony, Brierlee, Emma, Daniel, and Great Grandfather of Caleb, Ethan, Rex and Sophie. Husband of the late Patricia [Pat] Duggan, and long term partner of Joan Hazelwood, Masterton.

Dan’s love for his family was boundless and his strong social convictions involved him in many community and volunteer services as varied as the National Board of Diabetes NZ, the Parole Board, and night patrol crime watch in Otaki. Dan was also a member of the Labour Land Development and Management Corporation (later known as LandCorp).

In 1989, Dan was made a member of the Order of the British Empire for his services to the trade union movement – always a passionate advocate for workers' rights, he had worked for 20 years within the then-named 'Workers Union', at least half of that as General Secretary. Dan was proud to serve on the Labour Party executive.

A service celebrating Dan’s life will take place at 10.00am on Wednesday 6 May 2015 at Harbour City Funeral Home, 674 Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt.

Messages to Dan’s family may be left in his tribute book below or posted to PO Box 44-176, Lower Hutt.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Diabetes New Zealand may be made, by phoning them: 0800 369 636, or via mail: Freepost Diabetes NZ, Diabetes New Zealand, PO Box 12441, Wellington.

The family sincerely thank the superb Team at Kandahar Hospital & Rest Home who were supportive and accommodating.
A memorial Service, to be held at Kandahar, will take place at a date as yet to be arranged.
