KRUMINS, Aino Victoria (nee Lukats) of Owhiro Bay – died peacefully on 4th May 2021 with her daughter by her side at Wellington Hospital, aged 85 years.

Dear mother and mother-in-law of Andra & Alex, wife of Gundi, grandmother of Tali (grandmother-in-law of Mahmoud), grandmother of Yossi.

Aino’s life was a mosaic of good times, hardships, glorious scenery and truly wonderful friendships.

She was born Aino Viktoria Lukats at around midnight 28th February 1936 in Tallinn, Estonia to Alma and Jakob Lukats.

Following her unplanned childhood immigration from Estonia to New Zealand, she embraced wholeheartedly the mixed nationalities of our New Zealand community and was welcomed in turn.

Wellington's South Coast and the Wanganui River (particularly through the Canoe Camping Ltd. era) were especially close to her heart. She spent many years paddling various waters in her favourite canoes and kayaks.

Aino was a dedicated teacher, mentor and inspiration to young people.

She shared joy, skills and enthusiasm for academics, languages, music, guitar/ukulele, water polo, camping and kayaking/canoeing (amongst other passions).

Her welcoming cup of tea, characterful stories, life-lessons and unique company are already sorely missed by many.

An informal wake/memorial gathering to celebrate Aino’s life will be held at 134 Owhiro Bay Parade, Owhiro Bay, Wellington 12-3pm Saturday 8th May.

Remembrances may be left in Aino’s tribute book above or posted c/- PO Box 14-366, Kilbirnie 6241.

Special thanks to the staff of Wellington Hospital for their gentle care and kind support.
