I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below Their tiny lights like heavens stars, reflect an enchanting glow The sight is so beautiful, please wipe away that tear I know that I’m spending Christmas away from you this year
I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear But the choir’s chant of Joy to the World rings painfully in your ear I wish I could let you know of the beauty surrounding me Of the joyous sound of a heavenly choir – if only you could see
I know how much you miss me I see the pain inside your heart But I’m not so far away we really aren’t apart Remember me with love dear ones – hold my memory near Take comfort that I’m spending Christmas in a heavenly home this year
I send you each a special gift, chosen with all my care It’s a unique and treasured memory that will remind you of when I was there It’s been wrapped with hugs and kisses and all my eternal love I’ll be watching as you open it from this place of peace above
Please love and keep each other as you know I want you to Keep the bonds of our love strong as I always did for you So have a peaceful Christmas and wipe away that tear Remember that I’m spending Christmas in a place of love this year

I am sad about Marijcke's passing. She was a unique person with an attactie personality and many fine qualities. She was a stimulating colleague and gave her all to her calling in mathematics and the teaching thereof. Her strong spirit and generous contributions lives on with us all.

Marijcke, it's more than 30 years since we first got to know each other and we share so many happy memories. Many years ago a family trip to Noosa and our young kids getting lost, more recently up here in Kerikeri, shared meals and dreadful Dutch jokes and laughter. In "Palmie", you showed me your happy workplace and introduced me to that wonderful artist James Christensen, you so delighted in his fantasy people, all those small details. Then two years ago to buy boxes full of Brussels Lof in the Wairapa, surely everyone's favourite vegetable. And you were there for my mother when I was overseas. Hey, you helped me set up Skype so that we could chat so often, a great long distance friendship. Marijcke, ik mis je. Tot ziens.

Thank you Marijcke for your patience, understanding and good humour while you were assisting me with my education. Your smile and expertise will always be with me and I hope to pass that on to whoever I teach mathematics to in years to come.

It saddened me to hear of Marijcke passing away. I admired her as a teacher and a person. She showed me that she was human and demonstrated to me and to others that it is ok to make mistakes and to admit to mistakes. Her humour and warmth came across in every conversation. She was an inspiration to me, and many others. I remember sitting a contact course exam, and Marijcke sat the test, side by side with us. Her knowledge of Mathematics was backed up with wisdom and an unshakeable passion for the subject, and for teaching it. I will miss such a light in the world. Great teachers are treasures. She was a treasure, and her gift remains in the hearts of all she taught, including mine.

I was so sad to hear that Marijcke had passed away. My friendship with her goes back many years as she progressed through the Massey system, ending as a Senior Lecturer. She played a significant (but low-key) role in the IFS teaching program and enjoyed the respect and affection of colleagues and students (internal and extra-mural). I particularly remember her contributions to various conferences, NZ Math Colloquium, ANZIAM and the Manawatu/Wellington one day conferences of which she has been joint organiser. Her company and sense of humour at the conferences always guaranteed a fun time for those with her. She will be sorely missed. My condolences to Piet and family.

Dear Marijcke,
Your love and care for our family in the last 18 years have been and will be unforgetable!
I still remembered the early morning 15 years ago that I knocked at your door. You rushed to get the car and sent Amy to hospital to give birth to Cynthie.
Wish you have peace in the Heaven and we will meet again with joys some time and some place!
Love,
Edmond, Amy and Cynthie

It is hard to believe you are gone. I know of your personal concern for your students and of many instances where you went above and beyond the call of duty to help them. You positive and encouraging attitude has helped many students through difficult times in maths. Your great sense of humor, your sternness when necessary, your constant work and patience, all for the benefit of your students.
You have been a good friend to me, offering help when necessary, giving freely of your time. You have shouldered a load willingly that would normally require two people to manage. Whomever can replace you? Who will fuss at Kee at noon bridge when he wants to discuss the last hand instead of playing on? Who will offer the helpful suggestions about teaching?
I fear we have lost one of a kind and I am deeply saddened.
Ever your friend and admirer.

I remember this Summer’s calculus contact course. With her enthusiasm (“Integration is FUN, isn’t it?”) Marijcke made this subject entertaining for a bunch of students who would rather have been at the beach. A great teacher. She will be sorely missed.

Hi M, First you were my teacher then you became my friend and mentor and even my surrogate mum. We had great times travelling to Napier and Wellington to drop the girls off for weekends and we all remember the fun times in the Dutch Shop and the Gelato shop. It won’t be the same without you. It will be hard to be at work and not be able to put my head into your office and ask you for some advise, some droppies or chippies or just for a quick chat. I hope you are in a happy place and that you will always have good hands!!! I love you and miss you so much, but I know you know that. Beatrice and girls

I did not meet Marijcke in person but talked with her on the phone a few times regarding assignment questions. She had been personally kind to me in giving me extensions because of my circumstances, for which i will always be grateful. It's very sad indeed to learn of her loss. A big loss for her family, friends, associates and for Mathematics. I thank you wholeheartedly Marijke for being an excellent teacher and for inspiring me to learn more about Mathematics. Prayers and thoughts to all family and friends. May she R.I.P

Though you only taught me for a semester, your cheerful, effortless teaching gave me confidence in DE that will probably help me all my life. Teachers like you are priceless; I feel very lucky to have known you.

I have met Maricke many times at Maths Society and ANZIAM conferences and especially at the NZ Maths Colloquium. She was always warm and welcoming and added a human dimension to these sometimes cold and technical events. I will greatly miss her smile and her kindness at future colloquia in Palmerston North and elsewhere. I express my sympathy for their great loss to her husband and family.

Talofa Marijke, I only met you twice and you left a definite positive impression with me. You were a breath of fresh air, kind, enthusiastic, grateful and radiated such warmth that I felt at ease asking so much of you at such short notice. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. What a special person you were Marijke, a great loss to our university. Rest in peace and forever may your memory remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know and love you.
