Cyril Robertson Bradwell

19/10/1916 - 27/11/2008

BRADWELL, Cyril Robertson (QSO, JP) (B.Com, MA (Cant) BA Dickenson College US, ACA) died peacefully amongst family and friends on November 27th at Wellington Hospital, aged 92 years.

New Zealand champion 220 yd hurdler, 1938; Reg.14791 Private 2NZEF North Africa and Italy 1940-45; served in the Base Band and later 6th Field Ambulance.
With one other serviceman, was the first New Zealand American Field Service Scholar 1947-48.

In a postwar secondary teaching career Cyril Bradwell taught at Oxford District High School, Kisii Boys High School in Kenya, and Waitaki Boys High School. He was also a foundation teacher and then Assistant Principal at Riccarton High School, and Principal of Wellington High School.

A lifetime lay member and leader in the Salvation Army; awarded the Order of the Founder. A long-time Local Officer, bandsmen and bandmaster, historian, author, advisor and archivist for The Salvation Army. Cyril was also a Rotarian, Justice of the Peace and Chartered Accountant.

Cyril will be greatly missed by his many friends of all ages who have been of great support to him in his final illness.

He was the beloved husband of the late Nola Carrington,
and much loved and admired father of Helen May and Glenis Bradwell,
in-law relative of Graham Cook, Heather Rae and Crispin Gardiner,
grandfather of Julian & Mandy Cook, Sarah & Benjamin Johnson and Nell,
and great grandfather to Jonathan, Matthew, Benjamin and Laura.

A service will be held in The Salvation Army, Wellington South, Constable St, Newtown, Wellington at 12 noon on Tuesday 2nd December 2008, followed by private cremation.

A simultaneous service will be held at The Salvation Army, Linwood, 117 Linwood Avenue, Christchurch.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to "The Salvation Army Youth and Children's work in Fiji and Tonga", these may be left at the service or sent to P O Box 27001, Wellington 6141.
